A locum optometrist has denied killing an eight-year-old patient by gross negligence while working for Boots Opticians.

Honey Rose appeared before the Old Bailey charged with the manslaughter of Vincent Barker on July 13 2012.

An article published by the Daily Mail in September 2015 reported that the Crown Prosecution Service intended to argue that she should have spotted that Barker had papilledema during an eye exam.

Barker a pupil at Dale Hall Primary School in Ipswich, died at his home in the town after he was taken ill at school.

Rose spoke only to plead not guilty to the charge before Mr Justice Singh. She is currently on bail and faces a trial at Ipswich Crown Court on July 4.
