Optometrist Stuart Humfrey from Williams Optometrists in Benfleet, Essex is drawing attention to World Down Syndrome Awareness Day next week (March 21) with an event to coincide at the practice.
Humfrey, whose son Ollie has Down syndrome and high hypermetropia, will be highlighting the vision problems patients with Down syndrome can have on this world global awareness day. 'We're trying to raise awareness on the local side so I've invited our Down syndrome patients of all ages to come along, some of whom have been with the practice for 15 years. Down syndrome has always had a special place in my heart, with many of my existing patients being on the books before we had Ollie. I've also invited consultants from the paediatric eye unit where I work as well as the local mayor. We will be offering advice or help on high prescriptions, cataract treatment and other eye conditions that are prevalent for those with Down syndrome'
