Optegra Eye Hospitals has acquired Yorkshire Eye Hospital for an agreed sum of £4m and is planning to open another purpose-built site near Southampton in July.
The Surrey-based company, which has a flagship eye hospital in Guildford, is investing an initial £1.2m in the Yorkshire site, which will retain the Yorkshire Eye Hospital name. Investment includes the introduction of the WaveLight Concerto laser system, which the company described as integrating diagnostic and treatment capabilities.
Yorkshire Eye Hospital opened in 2003 as the first purpose-built private eye hospital in the UK to be developed and run by specialists. All current clinicians will remain at the hospital and continue to run their regular clinics.
