
Optegra Eye Hospital Manchester, located in Didsbury, has launched a new NHS glaucoma treatment pathway aimed at reducing long waiting times at local NHS trusts.
The new, free service ensured that glaucoma patients whose condition had progressed could be monitored and reviewed by specialist surgeons and offered treatment.
These were patients who required specialist care beyond the capabilities of their local optician practice and, to date, have had no choice but to join waiting lists at their trust hospital.
Specialist interventions available at Optegra included adjustments to medication, laser surgery or stent procedures to drain fluid and relieve pressure.
