Eye hospital Optegra announced it was launching seven cataract diagnostic clinics to enable patients to receive their diagnostic consultation and confirmation of whether they are suitable for treatment closer to home.
The optometrist-led service would run in NHS facilities or privately-owned GP practices, with patients being referred to their closest Optegra hospital and follow-up consultations taking place at community opticians or via Optegra AI.
The first diagnostic clinics would launch this month in Havant, Bognor Regis and Eastleigh near the Hampshire hospital with further clinics in Bolton, Oldham, Trafford and Stockport opening near the Manchester hospital.
Robert Pilling, Optegra business development director, said: ‘As well as increasing our service to our patients, we are pleased to be able to add further variety in work for our Optegra optometrists, to be able to run these clinics outside the main hospital environment.’
