Optical sector marks coronation

Royal coronation-themed window displays at independent practices around the UK were among the optical community’s highlights for the coronation of King Charles III, with Patrick and Menzies Opticians, Adcott Opticians and Sheffield-based Victoria Smith Opticians decorating inside and out.

Optometrist and owner Victoria Smith said that it celebrated the King’s coronation with various displays and thanked reception staff for decorating the practice.

The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) also worked with the BBC and ITV channels to enable blind and partially sighted people to access the TV viewing of King Charles III’s coronation broadcast on May 6. ITV included live audio descriptions and the BBC created a separate bespoke coverage.

Specsavers Home Visits service marked the royal event by delivering coronation-themed hampers to prevent patients from feeling forgotten or alone during the special occasion.

Dawn Roberts, clinical director at Specsavers Home Visits, said: ‘Our Home Visit colleagues meet incredible people every day. Caring for them is our priority. With that in mind, we also see that some of our patients can feel lonely or isolated because of their circumstances.’
