School workshop campaign Careers in Optics won praise at an occupational awards ceremony. The campaign achieved finalist status in the Personnel Today Awards' innovation category at a ceremony in late November at London's Park Lane Hilton. Judge Sian Thomas, a former NHS human resources director, said: 'The workshops showed a very innovative use of imagery and ways to engage young people in careers.'

CIBA Vision will hold a contact lens workshop at the 2012 Eyecare 3000 conference next month. Dr Cameron Hudson, CIBA's head of professional affairs, will lead the workshop on the afternoon of January 16. He said: 'Eye care practitioners are used to being told about the features and benefits of a particular contact lens but sometimes these features are at the expense of other characteristics of the lens, characteristics that are important to patients and practitioners.'
