Optician news in brief

Technology

Technology web portal Mashable has released a walk-through for the hearing and vision impaired, which looks at the heightened sensory settings found within the accessibility menu of the iOS 5 software used on Apple mobile devices. Custom vibrations have been added to allow users to assign unique vibrations to contacts so they can distinguish between callers. Speak selection allows the user to highlight large sections of text and have the phone read it back to them. See: mashable.com.

A resource for General Ophthalmic Services providers has been updated by the Local Optical Committee Support Unit. The Quality in Optometry (QiO) Toolkit, originally developed by the Optical Confederation and the College of Optometrists, has been changed to account for amendments to the NHS Primary Care Commissioning Contract Compliance Framework. A new practitioner checklist has also been introduced, at www.qualityinoptometry.co.uk.
