Professor David Henson has been selected by the College of Optometrists to deliver a keynote address at Optometry Tomorrow 2012. Professor Henson, of Manchester University, will give a lecture on glaucoma. The two-day conference, being held at the Brighton Centre from March 18 next year, will also cover AMD, OCT, dry eye, contact lenses, therapeutics, orthokeratology and contact tonometry and pachymetry.

More illegal contact lens sellers have been thwarted in the North East. Hartlepool Borough Council's trading standards team has warned residents about the dangers of purchasing cosmetic contact lenses from unverified retailers after being tipped off by a local practitioner. It follows a similar clampdown in East Yorkshire last month when fashion, fancy dress, hair and beauty retailers were warned to stop selling the products or risk prosecution by the General Optical Council (GOC). The GOC attended the Trading Standards Institute conference in June this year.
