This year’s David Pickwell Plenary Lecture will be delivered by guest speaker Professor Neil Charman. His talk will cover the latest discoveries in presbyopia, particularly management of the condition. The event, scheduled for October 30 at the University of Bradford, will begin with drinks at 6.30pm followed by the lecture from 7.00-8.30pm.
Vision charity Fight for Sight has appealed for potential partners looking to co-fund eye research projects. It could result in partnerships with universities, hospitals, other charities or pharmaceutical companies, it said. Michele Acton, chief executive of Fight for Sight, added: ‘This is an exciting step forward for us. It is very important for Fight for Sight to be able to work with others and partner with them to expand our research programme.’
A website at the centre of an online bullying case which featured advertising for Specsavers has been instructed to remove all of the adverts. It was alleged that teenager Hannah Smith committed suicide last week after receiving abusive messages via the Ask.fm site. The multiple said it had deep concerns over cyber bullying but did not reveal the nature of its advertising on the site.
Rumours of a court battle between Rawdon Optical and Jai Kudo lenses have been denied by both parties. ‘There is no truth in the rumoured dispute whatsoever,’ said a spokesperson for Rawdon Optical. Sales and customer service manager for Jai Kudo lenses Rob Harnett added: ‘Although we do not deal with Rawdon (Optical), we have an excellent, amicable relationship with them and a lot of mutual respect.
