Haag-Streit UK has sponsored a Kenyan cohort study by providing it with a DRS non-mydriatic retinal camera. The study, led by Dr Andrew Bastawrous ophthalmologist and clinical research fellow at the International Centre for Eye Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, has looked at the incidence and progression of eye disease in an East African population base in the country and is collecting information on several diseases including age-related cataract, glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.

The BCLA has invited applications to the role of its new conference programme coordinator, following the resignation of Chris Kerr as conference scientific programme consultant. Kerr will now take up a senior advisory role on the BCLA's conference committee. The BCLA said its new conference programme coordinator would play a key role in the planning of the conference and recruitment of speakers. Applications to the position can be sent to BLCA secretary general Vivien Freeman (vfreeman@bcla.org.uk).
