A recruitment campaign has been launched by the GOC for case examiners after the roles were created to help speed up the handling of complaints as part of its new fitness to practise rules. Mandie Lavin, GOC director of regulation, said: ‘Case examiners will play an active role in protecting the public, and both registrants and members of the public with the right skills should consider applying for these important roles.’ The deadline for applications is January 13.
European contact lens and lens care organisation Euromcontact has appointed a new secretary general. It has announced that Pascale Rouhier will take up the role on January 1, replacing former secretary general Anne-Marie Wolters who is retiring. A statement said Rouhier had a legal background including a number of years’ experience as a consultant and secretary general of various Brussels-based European associations.
US internet seller Coastal.com has launched a partnership with discount retailer Overstock.com to market its spectacle ranges to Overstock’s customer base. Orders were being fulfilled directly to Overstock’s customers from its US manufacturing and distribution facilities. ‘Adding prescription eyewear to the Overstock website, with great names at great prices, seemed a natural fit,’ said Overstock.com chairman and CEO Patrick Byrne.
Specialist contact lens franchise Oculus has recruited the first partner in its new Oculus Contact Lens Centre network. Chineham Centre Opticians in Basingstoke will be the founder partner in the network, created to help practices identify untapped potential. ‘With the support and training we’re getting as part of the Oculus network we will have the skills and expertise to fit hundreds more people with the latest lenses so that they have the choice to wear spectacles or contact lenses, or both,’ said Chineham Centre Opticians owner Chris Cox.
