Optomap looks to Ireland with installation

Equipment

The National Optometry Centre (NOC) in Dublin has installed an Optomap imaging unit from Optos. The device, which offers ultra-wide digital images of the retina, will be used by optometry students at the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT) in the development of specialised clinical areas such as paediatrics, low vision and contact lenses.

The NOC, which supports clinical training for the DIT optometry students, explained that Optomap imaging would be carried out as a routine eye exam or for specific clinical reasons, while head optometrist and clinic manager Declan Hovenden emphasised the importance of early detection of retinal conditions.

Optos added that the installation represented the start of its expansion into the Irish market, with the company already having developed an international presence in Europe, Asia and the US.
