Optometrist Andrew Keech took part in the New York Marathon last Sunday in memory of his late wife, Christina, who died from bone cancer last year.

Keech, who works for My Eyes in London’s Exmouth Market, Clerkenwell, ran the marathon for UK mental health charity Mind.

He commented in the Islington Gazette, November 1: ‘I wanted to focus my mind, and I believe that running is good mind therapy. I’m raising money for Mind because my wife used to work there as a branch secretary.’

Keech finished the course in a time of 4 hours 26 minutes.

Company director of My Eyes Kerk Davies said: ‘I’m full of admiration for him. It’s a very worthy cause.’
