Optometrists are being encouraged by the Thomas Pocklington Trust to become a source of lighting information for people with vision loss, the elderly and their families.
The charity explained that support for its Light for Sight Initiative could be in the form of verbal advice at the time of eye examinations or through giving out leaflets.
To enable practitioners to provide this information, the Trust has published a guide entitled Good Housing Design - Lighting: A practical guide to improving lighting in existing homes. This can be downloaded from www.pocklington-trust.org.uk or hard copies can be provided. The Trust can also advise practitioners on other training such as continuing professional development courses.
