Optician's editor Chris Bennett completed the Fambridge Yacht Haven Half Iron Triathlon earlier this month and has so far raised £690 for Blind Veterans UK.
This year marks the centenary of BVUK which provides practical, life-enhancing support for servicemen and women. The charity is keen to work with optical practices to identify those ex-service people who may now be suffering from age related diseases but served in the forces many years ago.
'Conditions on the day were tough with a strong headwind on the bike, the tide to contend with in the swim and the ground baked hard by the recent hot weather,' said Bennett who completed the 1.9km swim, 90km bike and 18km run in 5hours and 55 minutes.
