An adapted smartphone-based system capable of carrying out a range of ophthalmic diagnostic tests in remote settings has been sent for a trial in Kenya.
Peek (portable eye examination kit) has been developed by researchers at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), the University of St Andrews and NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.

Around 5,000 patients were being tested in the Kenyan trial, conducted by Dr Andrew Bastawrous of LSHTM.
