Trainee optometrists played the role of the patient at workshops organised by the College of Optometrists last week.
The College staged two workshops for optometrists and trainees in Birmingham on November 20, entitled To Volk or Not to Volk and an Introduction to Gonioscopy, where they learnt more about procedures and techniques.
The workshop sessions were held at Aston University's Vision Science Centre.
Student Alex Brant said: 'Not only has it been interesting to listen and to learn from what's being said, but it is useful to see and feel what it is like for a patient during examination.'
Dr Rebekka Heitmar, a lecturer at Aston, held the gonioscopy session, looking at the anatomy of the normal anterior chamber angle, the principles of gonioscopy and the different grading systems used to record findings of the anterior chamber angle.
College councillor Francesca Marchetti held the Volk lens session on the advantages and disadvantages between Volk and direct opthalmoscopy.
and enabled delegates to try different Volk lenses.
