Plymouth University's new optometry degree course has enjoyed a high level interest from applicants. Staff have been recruited and final preparations are under way for the course to commence.
Up to 36 students will be able to start the course at the end of September following approval by the General Optical Council, according to a university spokesman.
He said support for the course from independent and multiple areas of the retail optical business had been offered as they were keen to help contribute to the advancement of the course.
Interest in the course from potential undergraduates was also described as being very high. 'The staff is currently managing the applications and making offers,' he said. This was on-going due to the lateness of its promotion.
