MP Alberto Costa this month met with representatives from the county's optical committee and the optical confederation at Specsavers Opticians in Lutterworth.
At the visit, the South Leicestershire MP heard sector representatives talk about the importance of promoting regular eye tests to prevent blindness within the constituency.
Conversation also turned to the greater role community optometry could play in delivering eye care services, including a minor eye conditions service, which is available in the west of the county but not the east.
‘Of course, eye care is especially important,’ said Costa. ‘I was very encouraged to hear of the very good work many optometrists and [dispensing] opticians are doing, both across the constituency and the county.’
