Practitioner Comfort Ubani struck off

Dispensing optician Comfort Ubani has been erased from GOC registers by a fitness to practise committee.

Ubani was convicted of two counts of cruelty to persons under 16 years of age and was sentenced to two periods of 15 months imprisonment to run concurrently. The committee said the cases involved brutality towards two children around 10 years old that had been adopted by the registrant and brought to the country from Nigeria. It said the children were subjected to a regime of beatings over a number of years.

The criminal investigation was not disclosed to the GOC by Ubani and she was suspended for 18 months in September 2012.
