gocA dispensing optician found guilty of two counts of cruelty to a person under 16 years of age has had her suspension continued at a General Optical Council fitness to practise committee review hearing.

Comfort Ubani was sentenced to two periods of 15 months imprisonment to run concurrently at Blackfriars Crown Court in September 2012 and was suspended for 18 months by a fitness to practise committee later that month. The committee heard Ubani subjected two adopted children to a prolonged period of brutal abuse after being brought to the UK from Nigeria.

The committee said there had been no material change of circumstances since the last review hearing in September 2013, but noted that the registrant’s custodial sentence had been completed.
