Pupils get eye care lesson

Fifty-six school pupils aged between four and five from Nettleham Infant School in Lincolnshire visited David Burghardt Vision Care to discover how eyes work through a range of activities and demonstrations. The visit was part of the children's lessons about parts of the body as part of the national curriculum.

Fifty-six school pupils aged between four and five from Nettleham Infant School in Lincolnshire visited David Burghardt Vision Care to discover how eyes work through a range of activities and demonstrations. The visit was part of the children's lessons about parts of the body as part of the national curriculum.

Practice manager and dispensing optician Emma Austin said: 'During the time at the practice we explained about how the eye muscles work, what causes blinking and why we blink.'

When they returned to the school, the children worked in pairs to blindfold each other to find out what life would be like without sight and how a lack of sight heightens other senses.
