An appeal has been lodged against the relocation of a monument of historical importance to the optical profession.
The Victorian Society described plans to move the London Stone to a modern development further along Cannon Street, London, as unacceptable.
Chris Costelloe, conservation adviser for the Victorian Society, said: 'The stone is a tangible and permanent part of the streetscape, not a portable exhibit to be moved inside a building and displayed using lighting and mirrors.'
The Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers (SMC) supported plans for relocation during a visit to the current site with Optician in October (News 11.11.11). At the time it was being kept in a makeshift cafeteria.
