44% of women have left makeup on overnight according to research by ABDO
A total of 44% of women have left makeup on overnight according to research carried out by the Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO).
Further findings included 28% of those surveyed have used eye makeup that is out of date and 27% don’t regularly clean their makeup brushes.
Diane Nash, a contact lens optician, said: ‘Not removing eye make-up daily, using a specific eye make-up remover or regularly cleaning any application brushes used will increase the risk of a bacterial eye infection, which is also true if you do not replace makeup as often as recommended on the packaging.’
Nash has also urged anyone with any concerns about eye infections including any redness or discomfort to consult their local optician. She said that people can also access eye care and treatments under the NHS’ Minor Eye Condition Service.
