Contact lens practitioners must be 'guardian angels' as well as 'freedom fighters', liberating patients by fitting them with contact lenses but also safeguarding their eye health.
This was BCLA president Shelly Bansal's message in his 2010 Presidential Address to the association entitled 'Safety in numbers'.
Reviewing aspects of practitioner, practice and patient safety, Bansal (pictured with his wife and daughters) emphasised the importance of education and hygiene, and the need to upgrade wearers to the best available products.
The lecture was delivered at the Royal Society of Medicine in London on September 15 and will be presented at other events around the country during his year of office.
