Prescription 3D eyewear will be launched in the UK from March 2011 by Silhouette Eyewear and electronics manufacturer Samsung.
However, guidance over who is suitable to wear the frames and who might have problems is still not available to practitioners.
To complicate the issue further, the Silhouette 3D eyewear may not be sold through optical practices, but through electronics retailers or with the televisions, as the Silhouette designed glasses will be produced and distributed by Samsung.
Details on how the prescription lenses would be provided are not finalised, although it is understood that Samsung would provide the service by post, with customers submitting their prescription and PD measurements.
