Optician first viewed the wooden frames from Italian manufacturer Woodone at opti Munich in 2012. The company exhibited from a small desk, but it had ambitious plans. Owners Thomas Oberegger and Klaus Tavella wanted to sell 20,000 frames in 3,000 practices in 35 countries within two years, a feat which the company said it had achieved recently.
A new type of wood will be introduced next month, dark ashwood. Derived from Alto Adige, the new wood features the same bonding technology which allows for easier adjustment and is available in new styles which the manufacturer described as avant-garde.
