Adverse weather conditions around the country forced the College of Optometrists to postpone its Diploma Presentation Ceremony which was due to take place on Tuesday February 3 in London.

Adverse weather conditions around the country forced the College of Optometrists to postpone its Diploma Presentation Ceremony which was due to take place on Tuesday February 3 in London.

Heavy snow falls across England and the subsequent disruption to London's transport network led to the widespread cancellation or suspension of trains, buses, tubes and flights.

The announcement was made on Monday morning as further delays were predicted for Tuesday.College chief executive Bryony Pawinska said:'The decision to postpone the ceremony was not one that was taken lightly. With the Met Office warning that there is a high risk of further severe weather continuing to affect most of the UK, and London's transport system completely paralysed, we were left with no choice.'

The ceremony will now be re-arranged for later in the year. The severe weather on Monday also saw the closure of the GOC's central London office. The Council posted a notice on its website confirming it was also closed on Tuesday as Optician went to press.
