Specsavers’ marketing machine was presented with an unusual publicity opportunity recently by radio presenter Chris Evans.
On Monday February 25, a listener calling in to Evans’ Virgin Radio breakfast show was visiting Finland to see the northern lights. When he said his tour guide had told him to expect them to be white rather than green, it sparked howls of derision from Evans and his team. The DJ suggested the tour guide visit ‘whatever the Finnish equivalent of Specsavers is.’
Derek Bayley, a Specsavers manager, texted the show to tell Evans and the team that the Finnish equivalent of Specsavers was in fact, Specsavers. The DJ even suggested Specsavers shoot a Finland-based northern lights-themed advert.
