Following its success in Australia, Specsavers is poised to open up to 60 new stores in New Zealand, with ambitious expansion plans for 150 stores by the end of the year.

Following its success in Australia, Specsavers is poised to open up to 60 new stores in New Zealand, with ambitious expansion plans for 150 stores by the end of the year.

Graeme Edmond, former managing director of New Zealand's largest optical chain, Optical Holdings, has been recruited to spearhead the launch and to oversee the roll-out.

Commenting on the announcement, Doug Perkins said: 'While establishing the brand in Australia we began to attract significant interest from independent optometrists in New Zealand who admired the Specsavers' concept and shared our professional ethos and value-for-money principles.

'It is their heightened interest and appetite to be part of a global group, led by optometrists, that has accelerated our plans for New Zealand.'
