All Specsavers practices have now been equipped with fundus cameras, with screening made available free of charge to every customer.
A spokesperson said that the fundus screening meant the standard Specsavers examination would now be longer as a result, although 'not all customers will be required to have the screening unless they or their GP requests it'.
To promote the installation of the cameras into its practices Specsavers has invited members of the press to an event in London to hear how it can detect and monitor life-threatening conditions as well as to receive a fundus screening and a full sight test themselves.
