A hybrid programme for pre-registration optometry students has been launched by Specsavers to provide experience of working in a practice and in a domiciliary setting.
The launch followed a placement trial in 2021 where students shadowed a domiciliary practitioner during home visits and the programme offered the chance to gain all the competencies required to qualify.
Victoria Taylor, head of graduate recruitment at Specsavers, said: ‘The whole customer journey will be followed, illustrating the different aspects of care and cases the team deal with and the week will cover all areas of the business as well. This invaluable experience will demonstrate how different pathology can be managed and diagnosed in a home environment as well as how referral processes are focused around patient choice.’
