Student optometrists suspended

A GOC fitness to practise committee has suspended two student optometrists in Birmingham after finding their fitness to train impaired by reason of misconduct.

Hadiqa Ali and Azhar Mahmood were suspended from the register for three months and six months respectively in relation to a fabricated contact lens fit. 

Ali was found to have completed a contact lens trial in the absence of a patient on behalf of Mahmood for him to use on his College of Optometrists Stage 1 assessment. 

Mahmood asked Ali to do this for him and he planned to present this clinical record knowing it had been fabricated.
