The quiz 'Letter of the law' (March 30) was both interesting and informative. However, the answer to question B7 requires further clarification.
The small frame supplement was indeed as described in the answer, but this was superseded by the 'small glasses supplement' (SGS) introduced by Health Service Circular 1999/051 in March 1999. In addition to boxed centres of 55mm or less, this introduced the additional requirement that the spectacles must also require extensive adaptation, such as a change to side length or specially worked convex lenses. Boxed centres alone are no longer sufficient to claim the SGS. Trevor Warburton Stockport, Cheshire
