UK eye care practitioners have a major opportunity to encourage more consumers to try contact lenses, according to new CooperVision-sponsored research which has found that 52 per cent of practitioners are currently not offering lenses as a vision correction solution.
An online survey carried out in September revealed that respondents offered contact lenses to 48 per cent of patients requiring vision correction.
When asked ‘At what point do you initially mention contact lenses as an option to patients?’, half of practitioners mentioned them ‘Most of the time when appropriate’, 30 per cent as ‘Part of every appropriate clinical assessment’, 9 per cent at ‘Every encounter with a patient who requires vision correction’. Seven per cent mentioned contact lenses as an option ‘Only if they ask’ and 4 per cent ‘Only if I remember’.
