Contact lens practitioners have no shortage of new topics to talk about to patients in need of vision correction. That’s been perfectly clear in recent weeks with the launch of a number of new contact lenses in daily and monthly format that have the ability to add sparkle or glamour to patients both female and male. These are the new generation of cosmetic or coloured lenses and a recent Optician round table on the subject revealed a market that was ready to work with enhancing or transforming lenses now they are available in the same high-tech materials and modalities as those more commonly dispensed.
However, the big question is, will practitioners have these discussions with their patients? According to new research sponsored by CooperVision, that may not necessarily happen as 52 per cent of vision correction patients were not offered contact lenses as a solution. That practitioners are well placed to provide information on the latest technology is also revealed in the survey results, which point out that 86 per cent believe they and their staff are the main sources used by patients.
While every patient may not be open to an enhanced eye experience, there are plenty of other contact lens options to discuss and practitioners should never assume patients have heard it all before. Start up those contact lens conversations and it could change more than just the appearance of your patients’ eyes.
