US optical market grows to $65.6bn

Data released by the Vision Council estimated the size of the US optical industry for 2023 and valued it at $65.6bn with growth in eye exams and prescription frames sold.

It found there were about 44,850 brick and mortar optical retail locations in the US and that 93% of adults in the US regularly wore some form of eyewear.

Alysse Henkel, vice president of research and insights at the Vision Council, said: ‘By issuing our market data estimates and forecasts across specific categories – including exams, frames, lenses, contact lenses, plano sunglasses, and readers – The Vision Council is providing the industry with insights and sales trends to make informed business decisions and serve customer wants and needs.’
