A survey of healthy contact lens wearers across the US from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention revealed that 52.3 per cent were not aware of the AMO Complete MoisturePlus recall.
The CDC warned last week that multiple cases of infection caused by Acanthamoeba have occurred since the FDA announced the outbreak on May 26 and AMO issued a recall. In at least four of the cases the contact lens wearer continued to use the solution and developed symptoms after the recall.
It interviewed 151 people and among those aware of the recall, only 27 per cent could correctly name the product. Of 15 people who reported using the solution in April 2007, 12 were still unaware of the recall and using the product.
