More than 15,000 visitors from around the world last month descended on New York City for the 21st International Vision Expo East.

 The Jacob Javits Centre hosted more than 500 exhibitors split between five main areas - lens technology, contact lenses, practice equipment and low vision aids were all well represented.

However, with the Vision Council of America declaring sunglasses the 'it' accessory of the season, eyewear was the main attraction. Major players, including Safilo, Luxottica and Marchon, dominated the lower floor of the Galleria while brands like Sama, Blinde Design and Robert Marc generated attention in the exclusive Underground area. UK firm Fabris Lane exhibited at the event for the first time.
