Waterhaul launches frame made from net that ensnared a whale

Waterhaul & Net Zero Optics at beach clean the evening before Optician's EOS conference

Waterhaul told Optician at its Eyes on Sustainability (EOS) conference that it has introduced limited edition sunglasses made from the net that ensnared a humpback whale in South Africa as part of its Rescue to Recycle campaign.

The event, which took place on October 2 at Brighton i360, was the first of its kind dedicated to sustainability in optics, bringing together experts and companies across the eye care sector to drive change and ensure a greener future for retail optics.

Jon Green, a sales coordinator at Waterhaul which organised a beach clean the evening before the event, said: ‘We worked with the WCA [World Cetacean Alliance] and were able to free the whale of the fishing gear that we’ve then used to make a limited run of sunglasses.’
