Although I can’t believe how quickly it’s come around, I retired from Norville after 49 years this March. I want to say goodbye to all my many friends and contacts within optics.
It’s going to be very strange after such a long time in such a fast moving business, working with many kind and interesting individuals in England, Scotland and Wales (as well as Germany, France and The Netherlands specifically too). I really appreciated the help and support from my contacts during the opening of our first production facility in Livingston (New Town) in the early 1970s (thanks especially to Jack Brown). Also the many hospitable people I met during that time in our new home in Scotland: Bill Kilgour and Hamish Reid, Hugh McNellie, Arnold Rifkind, (Gerry McGintey, Ian Faith, Fries Ballantine God bless them). Mr and Mrs Shaw/Cumnock, Norman Salmoni and some of the other ‘oldies past and present’ from ‘Norville’; Arnold Sinclair, Nelson Hawkes, Ashley Jones, Tom Holmes, John McKay, Bob Wynyard, Syd Aylesbury – the list could go on.
