It's a hard life being an Editor ( sometimes, not often) this week has presented more than its fair share of trials and tribulations. I've had people trying to stop Optician from publishing things, other people complaining about things we have published and others complaining that we won't publish the things they want published.
As a print magazine with a website, forums, galleries, blogs etc etc drawing information from individuals, traditional meetings, browser searches, forums and the www Optician lives in the old world and the new. Have a look at my comment in this week's issue.
In the old world there are rigid rules. A publication stands up and says who it is. Comment comes from the editor, letter writers or those writing under pseudonyms and address withheld ( we know who they are so it's not anonymous). They have to keep it decent, legal and honest and face up to the criticism of the views they put forward. Much of the best debate in optics has been fomented this way.
