The College of Optometrists' Dr Cindy Tromans had her fifteen minutes of fame earlier this week on the BBC's expose of the craze of eyeballing vodka, not looking at it in Tescos but pouring it in your eye[ didn't that start several years ago??]. Yes it did start several years ago and even Optician has written about it at length for quite some time so clearly a slow news day at the BBC. You can watch it here and there is a link on my Twitter page.
The scenario is pretty simple. Put some vodka in your eye, yes it really hurts and ( drunk people think) it gets you drunk. The first bit is right and the second bit wrong unless you have something seriously wrong with your punctum. The nice ophthalmolly chaps at Machester did the science bit and described how alcohol melts your cornea and scraped a bit off of a pig's eye just for dramatic effect. The pressenter, Kate Robbins' daughter, recently famous from the Inbetweeners, was suitably shocked.
