If you have no concerns about wearing your contact lenses in the shower or swimming, it is well worth taking a look at a new initiative from Moorfields Eye Hospital - Healthy Habits, Healthy Eyes. In response to what appears to be a quite dramatic increase in cases of Acanthamoeba keratitis (80 in 16 months, compared to 10-15 a year) the London hospital is targeting young wearers who may be tempted to store lenses in water overnight or sleep in them when they are out and about. A particularly strong warning comes in the candid interview with student Sairia, who damaged her sight and lost almost a year away from her studies as Acanthamoeba was diagnosed and then treated.
