Here's a web headline that grabbed my attention: 'Do hot pots melt contact lenses?' http://www.thanhniennews.com/2010/pages/20120106-do-hot-pots-melt-contact-lenses.aspx It concerns a rumour about a Taiwanese contact lens wearer who was allegedy hospitalised with eye trauma, having eaten the contents of a steaming hot pot. There seems to be little evidence to back up the suggestion that the contact lenses were fused to the poor fellow's eyes but it has prompted Vietnamese doctors to warn of the dangers of wearing contact lenses and spectacles near heat sources, for example in a sauna. There's not much research to be found on the effects of hot pots on contact lens warpage, as it happens.
