No, we are not talking Quadrophenia here we are talking about mobility scooters.
The local transport miniter, Norman Baker, has been getting very upset, worried that hoardes of OAPs are speeding around our streets on these death machines mowing down defenceless young people or indeed, injuring themselves. Well not quite but he certainly thinks the issue of vision testing amongst users of mobility scooters needs to reviewed.
The answer , runs the argument, is to make users undergo sight testing to ensure they can see well enough to handle these dangerous machines. According to the Telegraph plans are underway to introduce such a measure. While it all conjures up a scenario not unlike Monty Pythons Hell's Grannies sketch a little delving shows there is a real following for these machines ( thanks for the image above).
