View from Locsu: Professional development is vital

Locsu
We optical professionals with the appropriate skills to take us forward

While many of the words on the Breakthrough Strategy for Optics have been about the supply side: Mecs and a new focus going forward on community monitoring (step-down services), its success will depend as much as the demand side of the equation: optical professionals with the appropriate skills.

With a raft of online induction training through to the Leadership Skills module and the Coaching & Mentoring course, Locsu has a full 360° learning and development programme which builds skills beyond core competencies.

In particular, the Clinical Governance and Performance Lead skills along with the NOC workshops, ensure that the optical profession is highly skilled to deliver extended primary eye care services.

Locsu’s Learning and Development programme will be evolving in line with our Breakthrough Strategy as the sector delivers more of the community monitoring and with a growing focus on those carrying out important roles as part of a Primary Eyecare Company (PECs).

PECs are evolving from what was previously a contract shell into an important service delivery vehicle responsible for governance and performance and playing a bigger role in the treatment of the patient in terms of recall of discharge.

So, please think about your own personal professional development in terms of the wider field of optics. Please take a look at the Learning and Development page of the Locsu website to see what is available.

It is only by having a big enough pool of the right people with the right skills that we will be able to deliver the increase in services that the Breakthrough Strategy aims to achieve.
