Optician editor Chris Bennett was dealt a blow while competing in the first leg of Optician’s summer sporting challenge in aid of Blind Veterans.
On a blisteringly hot day at the Fambridge Yacht Haven Half Iron Triathlon in Essex, Bennett was struck by serious cramp during the run section.
‘I was clearly dehydrated and however much I stretched out was unable to run. It’s really disappointing but at least I have the Prudential Ride London 100 cycle later this month to make up for my failure.’
So far Bennett has raised £1,030 for the charity, which provides practical and emotional support to Armed Forces and National Service veterans.
