Scottish optometrist buys first practice

Scottish optometrist buys independent practice just four years after graduating

A Scottish optometrist has become the sole owner of an independent practice in Renfrewshire just four years after graduating.

Gemma Hill acquired Forde Opticians near Paisley with the support of a £225,000 funding package from the Bank of Scotland.

Expansion plans have been put in place to increase the number of staff and to extend into the practice’s second room.

Hill said: ‘I’ve always wanted to buy my own practice, but it can be tough financially so early in my career. My plan is to introduce a graduate next year and train them up, similar to my own experience. It’s not simply about expanding the business in terms of finances and introducing new technology over the coming years, but also nurturing the next generation of talent.’
